Spa, Hot Tub and Jacuzzi Removal Cost

What can you expect to pay for having your hot tub or spa professionally removed and disposed of?

 - About $350 - $450 (for an average above ground spa)
 - About $450 - $600+ (for inground spas with separate pump and heating equipment)

A professional spa removal company's main cost factors are fuel, labor, specialty tools/equipment and DUMP FEES. Spas are considered "hard to handle" items at the dump and can really add up.

If a "junk hauler" or "spa removal guy" offers you a removal
for less that $250 you might want to verify the following:
  • Is your spa being disposed of legally?
  • Does he have adequate experience?
  • Is he licensed and insured?
  • Is the electrical connection being safely and professionally disconnected?

How to Properly Dispose of Your Old Spa or Hot Tub

For those of you who have an old hot tub, spa or Jacuzzi and are thinking about getting rid of it here is a little useful information:

1. Is your spa in good enough condition to sell?
Spas tend to decay within a few years if in the sun. They are also rodent magnets. If your spa is working, clean and not infested with rats you may want to consider selling it or giving it away.

2. How do I dispose of such a large item myself?
It can be taken to your local landfill if you have strong friends and a truck and trailer. Spas are very heavy and dangerous to move. If you try to do it yourself you need a large and strong dolly and a level and clear pathway. The most important aspect of a removal is to have the electrical connection professionally disconnected.

3. Will my city come pick it up at the street?
Unfortunately most cities do not offer pickup or recycling services, but it doesn't hurt to ask.
